In order to provide additional handling options for container ships of the 4. and In order to create the 5th generation of deep-water berths, two additional deep-water berths were built at Burchardkai in Waltershofer Hafen with a harbor floor at NN -16.70 m and a possible expansion depth of NN -18.80 m. The contract for the construction of the 3. and 4th berth was awarded to the consortium consisting of the companies Depenbrock and HOCHTIEF Construction AG.
The new quay wall was erected at a distance of approx. 22.00 m from the water’s edge in front of the existing embankment. Like the two completed berths at Burchardkai, it was designed with a built-over embankment (1:4) and ensures a 22.70 m drop in the ground.
These berths (LP 3 and LP 4), which are to be built in two construction phases, extend the entire expansion section of Burchardkai to 1,500 m with a total length of 662 m.
The length of the 1st construction phase (LP 3) is 386.26 m. It is divided into nine standard blocks, each 35.88 m long, and two wing wall blocks with a total extension of 63.34 m, for which only the sheet pile wall including the quay head was constructed in the course of the 1st construction phase.
The 2nd BA (LP 4) was 347.93 m long. It comprised nine standard blocks with a length of 35.88 m each, the extension of the two wing wall blocks of the first construction phase and an end block with an extension of 25.01 m. The end block is connected to the existing quay wall with a 22.30 m long transverse wall. The end block connects to the existing quay wall with a 22.30 m long transverse wall. The jump in the terrain was secured by a combined pipe wall made of Ø 1524×18 mm pipes with AZ 26-700 intermediate piles.
The center distance between the support tubes is 2.99 m. The lower edges of the supporting tubes are between NN -31.90 m and NN -34.90 m, those of the intermediate piles at NN -24.80 m. The combined pipe wall was anchored using PSt 600S/ 159 inclined piles up to 50 m long, which were connected to each support pipe by means of a pipe traverse.
The reinforced concrete superstructure is founded on the land side on three rows of in-situ driven concrete piles with a diameter of 51 cm. On the water side, the superstructure is founded on the support and friction pipes. The landside crane runway beam (1.80 m x 1.80 m) was founded separately on alternating 6:1 inclined in-situ concrete driven piles with a diameter of 61 cm. It was friction-locked to the existing beam of the LP 2.
