In 2003, the decision was made to fundamentally reorganize the Münster district government: the main administration building on Domplatz was to be extensively renovated and expanded, and a further central administration location was to be built on Albrecht-Thaer-Straße in the north of the city. In this way, all the branch offices of the >district government can be brought together at just two locations in future.
In March 2004, Depenbrock began work on the new administration building on Albrecht-Thaer-Strasse. Six months later, the topping-out wreath hovered over the building shell and the building complex was handed over ready for occupancy in April 2005. “We are one month ahead of schedule,” said Dr. Wolfgang Echelmeyer, Branch Manager of Bau- und Liegenschaftsbetrieb NRW Münster, expressing his satisfaction.
A modern administration building with a total gross floor area of 18,850 m² and 63,000 m³ of enclosed space was built at a cost of €14.5 million. The six-storey main wing with its colorful entrance portal runs parallel to the street and continues in three four-storey side wings. There is also a new canteen area with an inner courtyard that can be used as an open-air cafeteria.
Around 500 administrative staff now work on Albrecht-Thaer-Straße and look eagerly towards Domplatz in the heart of the city. From June 2005, Depenbrock implemented the Münster district government’s other major construction project here.
