DEPENBROCK takes over drilling technology expert HBL Lorenz
More expertise and special machines for laying power cables underground
Stemwede/Quakenbrück, 12 October 2023 – The family-run DEPENBROCK Group based in Stemwede in Westphalia is taking over HBL Lorenz Service GmbH, which will remain an independent company. Headquartered in Quakenbrück, Lower Saxony, HBL specialises in horizontal drilling, water crossings, longitudinal laying and renovation. The company is active throughout Germany and in other European countries. With the acquisition of HBL Lorenz Service GmbH, DEPENBROCK is also taking over the team of 14 experts in horizontal directional drilling technology and a fleet of horizontal drilling rigs. The parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price.
“The team, expertise and specialist technology of HBL Lorenz Service will expand and deepen our range of services, particularly in underground cable construction,” says Dipl.-Ing. Karl-Heinrich Depenbrock, Managing Partner of the Group, explaining the background. This will put the company in an even better position in future with regard to laying underground power cables – a service which is already in high demand. “For example, we are currently working on the construction of the SuedLink power line for our customer TenneT.” According to Depenbrock, a significant proportion of the cable route is being built using horizontal directional drilling in closed construction. The new subsidiary can provide optimal support for this function in particular.
In Europe, the drilling and flushing method is used for the trenchless laying of supply cables and gas and water pipelines, for rail and road undercrossings, in the construction of culverts, and in many other special applications. The drilling system consists of a supply truck with hydraulic unit and storage tank and a mobile drilling rig. The drilling tool consists of individually bolted, directional hollow drill rods and a drill head fitted with nozzles.
