Plenty of space for 70 children in the new DRK daycare centre: Grand opening ceremony in Werl-Aspe

29 September 2023, Bad Salzuflen – After less than a year of construction, the new daycare facility in the Werl-Aspe district of Bad Salzuflen was opened at the beginning of August. Just in time for the start of the 2023/24 nursery year, the eleven-strong teaching team led by Nathalie Janzen moved into the spacious premises on Asper Platz. Along with them, 50 children moved into the almost 750-square-metre facility that comprises four group rooms, each with three adjoining rooms and bedrooms, for a total capacity of 70 children.

The new daycare centre was developed and built for the City of Bad Salzuflen by the family-run construction specialist DEPENBROCK of Stemwede. DEPENBROCK was awarded the contract for planning, construction and operation following a public, Europe-wide tendering procedure. The sustainable building was built to the Efficiency House 55 EE energy standard with a view to the future. Partner and Managing Director Jörn Henrik Depenbrock presents the special features of the single-storey building: a flat pitched wooden roof with almost maintenance-free metal cladding and pre-installation for a PV system, a strip light in the hallway for daylight even in the central rooms, almost floor-to-ceiling windows, and heat generation without fossil fuels. “We are proud to have realized this attractive, extremely economical and sustainable concept in such a short construction period in close partnership with the City of Bad Salzuflen, DRK-Jugendhilfe und Familienförderung in Lippe, and the architecture studio pm.,” explained Jörn Henrik Depenbrock on the sidelines of the opening ceremony.

The architecture studio pm. of Minden developed the concept for the new daycare centre, and a 30-year rental agreement was concluded with DRK-Jugendhilfe und Familienförderung in Lippe gGmbH. The DRK was involved in the concept development for the project from the very beginning and was thus able to incorporate its practical experience. Managing Director Regina Kaiser was particularly keen to create spaces to which the children can withdraw, which is why many side rooms and bedrooms were planned. “The children have the chance to satisfy their own need for peace and quiet or small group activities,” she explains.

Last Friday, the facility was officially opened with all those involved. This was followed by a colourful fun-and-games programme for children and parents: face painting, a photo corner, balloon painting, and the darkened experimentation room encouraged lots of interaction. “An all-round successful afternoon,” says Nathalie Janzen, summing up the celebration.
