Contracted by the town of Brake, DEPENBROCK built an energy-efficient replacement building for Harrien elementary school, including a single-field sports hall and outdoor facilities. The result is an elementary school with a 2.5-class capacity for up to 270 pupils. Along with the planning, construction and interim financing, the services provided also included maintenance during the warranty period.
Energy and building concept
In addition to its attractive and highly functional architecture, the new school complex features a sustainable energy and building concept. The main planning requirement was to optimise the energy demand. With this in mind, the building was designed to comply with the “Energy Efficiency House 55” standard in accordance with the German Federal Grant Programme for Efficient Buildings (BEG).
Electrically driven air-to-water heat pumps cover the base heating load and gas-fired condensing boilers cover the peak load. A central ventilation system with heat recovery is used to ventilate certain areas such as the canteen, classrooms and interior ancillary rooms. A 217-kWp photovoltaic system generates its own electricity, which reduces the building’s energy requirements.
