The city of Hildesheim is having a new educational campus built at the Renatastrasse site, which will include a 2.5-form all-day elementary school, a single-field and a multi-purpose sports hall as well as a daycare center with crèche. The concept also envisages expanding the school to a three-form entry school at a later date if necessary.
Die Architektur
The basic architectural concept of the educational campus is a U-shaped courtyard with compact buildings. It will consist of an angular building for the school and sports hall – facing Renatastrasse – and the western edge of the site, as well as a linear two-storey structure to the south, which will house the daycare center.
The schoolyard stretches between the buildings as a versatile outdoor area for the school. The open spaces of the daycare center can develop undisturbed to the south. This arrangement provides a convincing spatial interpretation of the “campus” theme – creating a place for learning, living and meeting.
Das Energie- und Gebäudekonzept
In order to optimize energy requirements, emphasis was placed on a compact building structure during the planning phase. The plans for the building envelope are based on EnEV 2014 as of 2016. A district heating station, radiators, radiant ceiling panels and ventilation systems ensure the heat supply. The electrical power is supplied from the medium-voltage grid and the lighting is provided by LED technology.
