Extension of Europakai Cuxhaven LP 4

In spring 2016, the consortium consisting of Depenbrock, TAGU and Nordsee was awarded the contract for the construction of the extension of the Europakai LP 4 in Cuxhaven via a side offer with an optimized quay wall and shortened edge dam.

The approx. 250 m long quay wall is divided into 8 blocks and consists of a mixed pipe sheet pile wall with a grid dimension of a=3.08 m, which is anchored by driven inclined piles. A low-lying quay slab was planned to shield the high loads on the sheet pile wall. This has a constant component height of 90 cm and is founded on Ø61 cm in-situ concrete driven piles.

• Filling screed AZ 26-700 in steel grade S355GP
• Inclined pile HTM 600/151 in steel grade S355GP Lengths up to 67 m

By extending the eastern transverse wall, the consolidation phases have been shortened and the construction time optimized.

The quay is designed for traffic loads of 100 kN/m² in the standard area and 200 kN/m² in the area of the heavy-duty blocks.

Another particular challenge of the project was the thick soft layers in the area of the operating areas and the consolidation concept that had to be created for this with preload fills and vertical drains, which had to be integrated into the construction process and the short construction time. As part of the construction project, 2 dolphins Ø 2,200 x 22 with a length of 39 m were installed and fully equipped (fenders, bollards, lighting, jetties).
