Das Projekt

In February 2016, Depenbrock Bau was awarded the contract for the complete refurbishment and construction of the new indoor pool in Dormagen. The in-house structural engineering department was responsible for the technical realization of the project. As the topping-out ceremony was to be celebrated just seven months later, the structural engineers realized an optimal construction concept for the geometrically and statically demanding building in just one month.

The design planned for the indoor pool up until the contract was awarded was first analyzed, then evaluated in detail and finally optimized step by step.

Die Architektur

Lots of glass, open and transparent: the new indoor pool in the center of Dormagen is a real eye-catcher.

700 square meters of water surface – more than previously in the two indoor pools in Nievenheim and Dormagen combined – are now available. The main pool offers eight 25-meter lanes; there is also a variable pool with 166 square meters of water surface, which can be used as a teaching pool and for courses thanks to its lifting floor. There is also a children’s paddling pool and a diving facility with a one-meter board and three-meter tower. The changing rooms, showers and foyer have been significantly extended and are much more modern.

Das Energie- und Gebäudekonzept

A prime example of efficiency gains – the Depenbrock Competence Center for Structural Design demonstrates how optimization potential
can be used consistently.
