The City of Cuxhaven has decided to build a new indoor swimming pool for school swimming on Beethovenallee. Once the new building has been completed, the old facility is to be demolished.
Along with the planning and construction of the new indoor pool, Depenbrock’s services also include the demolition of the old building, interim and final financing, and maintenance during the warranty period.
Architecture
The design idea encompasses the technical, ecological and economic considerations associated with creating a favourable relationship between building volume and envelope area.
The overriding aims of the concept are to provide good orientation and an intuitive understanding of functions via two clear structures. Moreover, a bright, friendly and spacious atmosphere is to be achieved through a contemporary response of the new architecture to the location between existing residential development and park landscape.
As a consequence of these premises, the new indoor pool is divided into two combined structures: the single-storey “entrance structure” with its extroverted entrance accommodates the reception, administration and changing rooms. The two-storey “pool structure” contains the basin as well as recreation and technical areas on the upper and basement floors. With its clear and unambiguous lines, the building conveys calm and stability.
Energy and building concept
During the planning phase, particular attention was paid to optimising energy requirements. The building envelope was planned to comply with the requirements of EnEV 2014 as of 2016. A combined heat and power unit and a condensing boiler generate heat, with heat distribution controlled by the ventilation system and underfloor heating in some areas.
Electrical energy is supplied as low-voltage power. LED technology is used for the lighting, which is controlled in the indoor swimming pool depending on the amount of daylight.
