“The new Nordwest Handel AG headquarters is more than just a building. It is a sign of stability and a symbol of the innovative concepts of our retail association,” said Bernhard Dressler, CEO of Nordwest Handel AG, at the topping-out ceremony at the new location in Dortmund on April 26, 2016. “The headquarters will create a competence center and an attractive exhibition and communication platform for our partners from trade and industry.”

From a bird’s eye view, the four building sections with the respective office units appear as a plus sign. The floor plan and building concept is based on the idea of a marketplace that stands for trade, communication, meeting point and experience. The centerpiece of the building is an inviting entrance situation together with the representative and versatile showroom. A conference area was created on the second floor, which is equipped with state-of-the-art communication technology, variable partition walls, appropriate ventilation and a heating/cooling ceiling.

The building is equipped with a combined heat, power and cooling system. The heat generated by a gas turbine is used to operate an absorption chiller for air conditioning. In addition, electricity is produced for the company’s own needs and the waste heat is used for heating. The systems were installed on the roof – as was the entire ventilation technology – so that a basement was not required.
