With the high number of refugees, the City of Hamburg too faces with the challenge of creating sufficient accommodations for them. Between January and November 2023, 25 residential units for 600 people were built on Vogelhüttendeich Strasse on behalf of F&W Fördern & Wohnen AöR. A total of 683 containers were provided, most of which (625) were residential containers. There are also 54 containers for administration, one container for “last mile” house connections, and three washing containers. The contract also included the construction of a semi-open childcare facility with higher requirements for the containers, such as the installation of underfloor heating.
In order to complete the residential complexes on the 41,500 m² site on schedule, everyone involved had to make a lot of progress in an extremely short space of time. It was necessary to backfill around 40,000 tons of sand and dispose of 16,000 tons. Other services included the laying of 3,316 m of supply and underground pipes and the construction of a 2,000 m² rainwater retention basin.
Civil engineering, turnkey construction, and the technical building equipment and structural planning departments also successfully worked on the Vogelhüttendeich project hand in hand and met the promised completion date.
