At the Bocholt-Mussum site, Depenbrock has constructed two production halls and a new office building for Siemens AG as general contractor. The extension will merge the two existing coupling plants in Vreden and Mussum. The two new production halls with a total area of around 9,200 square meters complement the existing plant and, according to Siemens, make it the “largest clutch production site in the world”.
As part of the construction work, the existing site was not only expanded, but also modernized in order to optimize processes. Among other things, the expansion includes a 350 square meter test area. Depenbrock was responsible for the complete execution planning of the turnkey construction project, which was completed in a construction period from April 2014 to February 2015. Cassette walls with trapezoidal steel profiles were used as the outer shell for the hall construction. Prefabricated reinforced concrete columns with steel perforated web beams were used as the supporting structure. Acoustic trapezoidal sheets were used for the construction of the roofs. The Depenbrock team realized the office building with a staggered storey as a reinforced concrete structure. A total of around 5,120 cubic meters of concrete, 602 tons of reinforcing steel, 9,200 square meters of trapezoidal roof sheeting and 2,650 square meters of sheet metal façades were used in the construction process. By using 50 cm thick prestressed concrete ceilings (jumbo ceilings), it was possible to achieve both high sound insulation requirements and a column clearance of more than 16 meters in the test area.
During the work for Siemens, Depenbrock once again demonstrated its exceptional flexibility: during the construction period, the client expressed the wish to integrate a canteen with a capacity of around 80 people into the new building. The Depenbrock team always implemented these and other specifications promptly and precisely. Depenbrock also ensured that production in the existing halls could continue undisturbed during the entire construction process, as requested by the customer. The planning of the building services also posed a particular challenge, whereby the cable routing was simplified by the perforated web beams selected.
