The new student residence on Natorpstrasse in Essen’s Ostviertel district is very inviting. Delivering just on time for the start of the 2018/2019 winter semester, Depenbrock Systembau acted as general contractor for the turnkey construction of the 135 residential units – all individual apartments measuring around 20 m² – in the city centre.
Architecture
Of particular note is the surface foundation on a one-metre-thick hydraulically bound base course. Four full storeys and a staggered storey were erected on that foundation, with the façade designed as a composite thermal insulation system. The ground floor is designed to be completely barrier-free.
Energy and building concept
To optimise construction time and quality, 121 prefabricated wet cells made of lightweight concrete were delivered fully equipped from the factory and lifted into place, floor by floor, during the shell construction phase.
